Capturing Art

Melbourne
Leica M-E. Summicron-M 35mm

There are places where photography is prohibited, like in some concerts, museums, art galleries, and even some buildings (heard about the Eiffel Tower lately?).

I was once stopped from taking pictures of an old structure at KLPAC by their security.  I wrote an email to them and I was told I could take the pictures if I were to pay a fee (they were talking thousands of Ringgit), as "it's private property".

Restrictions on flash photography in a museum/gallery/concert I can understand, but no photo taking at all is bad (don't get me started about KLPAC); isn't art is all about sharing?

Burden

Kuala Lumpur
iPhone 5s

What made me shot this was what came into my mind the first instance, "Hey you are endangering others' lives!".

I shot it, drove past him, and thought nothing about it until I opened up the photo later in the day.  The stuff he was carrying and the shadow in the picture somehow tell me he wasn't exactly enjoying his ride. It was a beautiful day on a Ducati perhaps but a day job carrying junk on a kapcai it became a long-hot-tiring day ahead.

He may be riding his overloaded bike this way illegally, but I'll give way every time I see him, and pray for his safety.

Sunny Day

Work for Food

Sunny day is nice on a holiday, a day out to take photos or people watching from a cafe.  But it may not be so nice if you have to work under the sun...

... then again, an all-windows office (c/w air-conditioning, a desk-top PC, and a badge!) may not be all that bad?

Perhaps depending how one looks at it, a sunny day is a colorful day after all :)

Halloween

Kuala Lumpur
HP IPAQ

The Echocardiography Room usually looks friendlier during the day.

It was in the middle of the might, some years ago (notice the picture was shot with an IPAQ?). I was going through a scan to prepare for my surgery the next day.  Of course, I didn't forget to take some pictures before I was wheeled in.

And I survived the nightmare  :)

Sounds like Halloween eh?

Attractions

Kuala Lumpur
Ricoh GRV 18mm

If you care to observe, you will find lots of interesting stuff around you while walkabout in the city, especially while people-watching.

I saw this guy trying out his dashing pink suit in a tailor shop inside a mall... Hey how often do you spot a pink suit, not to mention on a big fella like him, in KL? So I couldn't resist and went into the shop and asked for a shot and he happily obliged.

Have you ever found someone just possesses the 'power of attraction (or distraction)'? She walks into the right spot, and the lights and everything just fall into places and make heads turn?

Kuala Lumpur

Or, rather they just KNOW where the lights are?

The 'bandit look' got my attention.

How can anyone ignore this fella?

Mr Spiky is definitely a distraction!

Happiness in Colour

Kuala Lumpur
Leica M-E. Summicron-M 35mm

Happiness comes in the simplest form - sunshine, balloon and bubbles!

Melbourne

... or maybe a skateboard will be even better!

Warm colours (especially added with sunshine!) evoke feelings of happiness, optimism and energy not only to the subject of my pictures, but to myself taking the shots too!

Boots or Slippers?

Headless

Kuala Lumpur
iPhone 5

Which would you rather be - headless and shoeless (and probably soul-less) in a seemingly comfy enclosure, or out there enjoying the haze and weird weathers and all the worries comes free with everyday life (but not to forget the freedom to take pictures!)?

A Good Day

Kuala Lumpur
Ricoh GRV 18mm

On a Sunday morning, sweating it out along a crowded corridor by the roadside and surrounded by 'garbages', these young girls' efforts put a lot of us to shame.

They are part of Tzu Chi's regular volunteers, collecting recyclable materials from the neighbourhoods, segregate them into different categories, repack and sell them to the recycling centres to raise funds for charities.

What a admirable noble deed to Go Green protecting the environment and help others in need at the same time!

Panorama

Melbourne
Horizon Perfekt. Kodak Ultra Max 400

Ultra wide-angle shots are amazing. Seeing more in one shot, what can be more beautiful that that?

Kuala Lumpur

Although it's very easy to shoot digital pano-shots now with newer cameras and smartphones, it's always this indescribable feel of analog charm in films!

However, it doesn't mean a phone camera can't take as good a pano-shot though, even without setting it to panorama mode...

All you need is a PAN, of course! :)

Love

Kuala Lumpur
Leica M-E. Summicron-M 35mm

It seems just not too long ago, I was watching my little baby girl on her pram, sucking her thumb, holding tight to her soft toy and talked gibberish to me... and now I'm looking at this young teenager busy with her school works, and will probably grab her skateboard and out sweating the next minute, I'm feeling blessed and the love in the air!

On The Road

Kuala Lumpur
iPhone5

I drive a lot everyday, I'd say 80km or a little more on an average working day in the city. That's probably 3-4 hours I spend everyday sitting in the car.  Phone camera is my toy to kill the time stuck in the traffic...  Here are some of my collections -
